Dehydrated vs Dry Skin - What’s the difference?

Our skin requires 2 forms of hydration: oil and water.

This is why we have oil glands and sweat glands: the oil to act as a natural moisturiser, and the sweat to hydrate the skin. When the oil glands and sweat glands work in tandem, your skin is properly moisturised and hydrated, resulting in normal skin - yay!

However, there are many reasons our oil glands and sweat glands can go out of whack:

  • Weather - hot and humid weather can trigger our oil glands and increase sebum production, resulting in oily skin. Conversely, cold air and high winds can strip your skin of much needed hydration.

  • Hormones - young people undergoing puberty will experience an increase in sebum production, especially when they are physically active and do not engage in hygienic practices.

  • Habits - if you enjoy taking hot baths, you are inadvertently drying your skin out. This is worsened if you do not dry your body properly and allow water to evaporate from your skin!

  • Skin care products - not using the right skin care products can lead to overly dry skin. Many people treat cleansers as a basic product that doesn’t need to be chosen with care; ironically, it is the most important product that will not only strip your skin of its moisture and cause your skin pH to go below the required 5.5 to 5.7.

The Difference Between Dehydrated and Dry Skin

Many people often confuse dehydrated and dry skin - they are not the same!

Dehydrated skin refers to skin lacking in water - just as we need to drink water regularly, our skin needs a constant supply of water to keep it radiant and healthy. Dehydrated skin can result in a variety of problems for the skin: lack of radiance, fine lines, soreness while applying products on the skin, flaking and peeling skin. This however, is only the start of your problems if you suffer from dehydrated skin. It can also subsequently lead to:

  1. Sensitive skin - just as our bodies react negatively when we do not drink enough water, our skin can become sensitive if it remains dehydrated for a prolonged period of time. This is due to an imbalanced skin pH - our skin needs to remain at a pH between 5.5 to 5.7 - and anything lower than that will lead to sun sensitivity, redness, warm and painful skin and even pigmentation.

  2. Combination skin - acne and pimples while experiencing tight, dry skin. This can be frustrating - especially if you do not know how to cure it properly. It may seem contradictory - you need to hydrate your skin with a moisturiser for dehydrated skin without increasing sebum production, which can worsen acne and pimples!

  3. Premature ageing - while ageing is a natural process for our bodies to undergo, we definitely do not want the signs to appear earlier than they have to! Without proper hydration for the skin, however, signs of ageing will definitely appear early - fine lines and wrinkles, laughing lines, sagging skin and lack of firmness.

In essence, water is the number 1 answer to good, radiant skin - and simply drinking it is not enough! You need to moisturise your skin for hydrated, healthy skin.

On the other hand, however, you may experience dry skin if your oil glands are not producing enough sebum to act as your skin’s natural moisturiser. This can be easily solved by using the right moisturiser for your skin type ;)

It soothes and relieves dry skin - at the heart of every product is a scientific formula, a complex blend of state of the art ingredients.

The skin needs moisture to stay smooth and supple but retaining moisture can be difficult, especially as the skin ages. This treatment helps to solve the problem of very dry skin and even symptoms of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis with rich, hydrating lipid-containing products.

These active ingredients work together to stabilise the hydro-lipid barrier, which help to protect the skin from moisture and lipid loss. Intensively hydrating, they reduce itchiness and irritation, moisturise the skin, improve suppleness and leave the skin feeling smooth and silky soft.

  • Extract from the Bulb of the Bunch-Flowered Narcissus - helps reduces itching and feelings of discomfort

  • Horseradish Tree Seed Extract and Nasturtium Extract - release the skin of pollutants for cleaner, healthier skin

  • Centella Asiatica Plant Extract - soothes the skin, reduces redness and tightness

Testing of the treatment has shown 55% faster healing of the skin and reduced impurities, 65% improvement in skin texture and smoother complexion and 70% increase in hydration.

2. Mille Hydration Treatment

A double-mask treatment that utilises the most luxurious textures and ingredients to offer the skin the ultimate, highest degree of hydration effects with incomparably radiant skin.

The first mask - a Plant Stem Cell Mask that contains lyophilised collagen with a plant stem cell complex to revive the skin and boost it with moisture and hydration. The plant stem cells enhances skin cell renewal and tissue regeneration so that your skin works even harder than before to keep your skin hydrated, youthful and renewed.

The second mask - a Hyaluronic Acid Mask that penetrates the skin to moisturise it from deep within. This gives the skin optimum radiance and an immediate anti-ageing effect, resulting in youthful, hydrated skin.

3. Mosaic Hot Mask Treatment

A classic, long proven treatment that is based on a deep-acting, self-warming mineral mask that sees each part of your skin as individuals, and not a whole. Your skin must last your whole lifetime and looking good throughout is a must. Your skin is exposed to external and internal influences, which can impact its appearance – but these effects differ for every area of our skin.

The individual needs of each area of our skin are addressed with specially tailored, highly personalized care - whether you have an oily T-Zone with sensitive cheeks, dry skin with acne or other ailments, this treatment solves it all. In addition, the mask heats up your skin from 37 to 42 degrees Celsius - which gently open ups the pores and allow the nourishing ingredients to work their way deep into the complexion for optimal results.

This is perfect for you if you have dry skin that is itchy and flaky; and yet suffer from pimples and acne. One of the most common sources of frustration comes from mixed signals from your skin - acne and pimples indicate oily skin, tight and itchy skin indicate dry skin. The Mosaic Hot Mask Treatment is thus perfect to rebalance your sebum production to reduce pimples and acne while giving your skin the moisture it needs.
